The Hickensian

16.08.04 Geekend2

As already explained by Jeremy, the weekend just past was the second of our “Geekends’ where UK bloggers get together to talk web standards and encourage Dunstan to become a spy. Thanks to Andy Budd for taking on the organisation.

Here we all are at Krakatoa, eating Thai food and discussing what special weapons the Dreamweaver Task Force get. Click the image for a larger version with (image-map free!) rollovers showing who’s there and where their blog is.

It was a blast, and over too soon. Thanks everyone.

Awww, how come all the ladies have their backs to the camera? No one wants to see you bunch of weird looking guys. ;)

That’s a good idea, though. There’s gotta be plenty of standards folks out here in southern California, someone should organize something like this. Isn’t Grey Storey from around here somewhere?

It’s very nice to see you guys in such informal surrounding. Helps me keeping the fate we (humans) are not going to be a complete strangers some day.

Hey, in the middle bottom of the picture someone’s missing!

Dante – I was taking the picture! See if you can spot the join BTW…

Hmmm… I can’t tell if Patrick’s residual third arm is due to the join or just really fast elbow movement. ;-)

Great seeing you again Jon.

Ah, still utterly gutted I couldn’t be there. For those of you that know why I couldn’t be there, all is well for now. Thanks for your emails guys – hopefully I’ll catch up with you all soon…

gah! you get an idea and someone always beats you too it… the image mapping that is not the geekend.

Jon I notice your imagemap doesn’t work so well in Internet Explorer (PC), unless my version is up the duff as usual… anyway I have been playing with a very simliar idea and found that the addition of …

background:transparent;

...to the intended hit areas seems to do this trick

John – thanks for that. I must admit, I hadn’t bothered checking on my PC, which was really slack of me.

Its a bit of a hard way of image mapping, and its also confined to using rectangles. I just wanted to see if it could be done.

I really like it as an idea, it has quite distracted me from more important things… maybe someone could recreate the blogocarta done at nundroo.com using just css and a splash of php… I’ll get my coat.

Sounds like a fun weekend should give us a heads up when Geekend 3 is coming along im sure more of us would be tempted away from the PC to drink some sud’s and talk… about the web….
