Come and hear me 'go on a bit' in 2008

For someone who isn’t the keenest public speaker, I seem to have got a few speaking gigs coming up.…

Oxford Geek Night: 6th February

I will be doing a 5 minute microslot on Icon Design explained next week, a quick run-through of the process of icon creation from thinking of a metaphor, to sketches to final icon. Taking place upstairs at the Jericho Tavern in Walton Street Oxford. The Geek Nights are always a good night out!

Future Of Web Design 17th April

From Design to Deployment
Creating a site isn’t always a straight process of sketches to static photoshop comps to coding HTML & CSS. Looking at the workflow and nitty gritty of various designers reveals a variety of techniques for getting a design deployed on the web. This session will look at those practices: creating personal frameworks, planning markup for semantics, accessibility and SEO, browsing testing, bughunting and many more.

I also seem to have been volunteered for a live bout of layer tennis! Elliot Jay Stocks and I are pitted against Jina Bolton and Hannah Donovan from last.fm. As Leigh said “Do they know how slow you are?”. Obviously not!

@media London 29th-30th May

Three is the magic number
Oh yes it is! It’s the magic number! Designing with symmetry and equality in mind can make designs dull and lifeless. This session will show that with embracing asymmetrical balance and working in multiples of the mystical number of 3, you can create tension, express movement and even express emotion in your designs.

Heh. Michael got there before I did. Sadly, I’m on the wrong side of the ocean to attend any of these. Oh well.

FOWD would simply be awesome to attend. Sadly, like Jonas, I’m on the other side of the pond, and I highly doubt my work would send us over there.

…and my time machine isn’t working (sorry, just hadta)

Your ‘Creative Sponge’ session at @media last year was one of the highlights for me. Sadly, my scrapbook hasn’t taken off (yet!), but I’m now considering design in pretty much everything I look at, so I must be soaking up the odd drop of that sweet creative juice.

Hats off to you, sir!

Had the pleasure of meeting you and Leigh last year at @media and I’ll be seeing you again this year. Also signed up for FOWD. Can’t wait.

These all look fascinating; shame I’m not a better swimmer or I’d show up. Any chance of any of these talks finding their way online someday?

Your RSS feed baffled me momentarily because it pointed to come-and-hear-me-go-on-a-bit-in- 2007

Unfortunately I’m in the US, I can’t make it to any of these. Best of luck to you!
