comment spam

So I finally got targeted with some comment spam, I suppose it had to happen at some point. What I really hate is if I hadn’t been around to delete and IP ban them immediately, it would be just be sitting there, giving the site bad karma. Little buggers.

So, I’ve installed Jay Allen’s MT Blacklist plug-in, and I’m giving it a whirl. If you use a similar system, help yourself to my blacklist.

I don't know how well it works since I only use mt in a test environment but James Seng has a Bayesian filter. Bayesian works great for email, maybe it works for commenting too.

Don't know if you've seen these Seven Tips for a spam free blog?

Found over at Stop Design.

Jamie - thats a great resource, thanks! I already do number 2, so that helps me feel better!

I found visitors comments useful in many ways - otherwise I would just close comments on all entries.

Jon,

I'd love to hear how MT-Blacklist is working out for you after you've had it running for a while. I've been thinking about installing it on my blog, but I'm waiting to see how it fares out in the wild first.

One drawback so far is that it cancels out the hack I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, preventing yuo getting notifications of your own comments. Minor drawback though...
