Does this England Exist?
The visuals for BBC’s Filth (the story of TV campaigner Mary Whitehouse, played by Julie Walters) were right up my alley. It’s a view of England in the sixties: Morris Minors, pristine red Post Boxes and Routemaster buses, sunshine, village greens and every other sign written in Gill Sans.
I have no idea whether it really existed or not, but I love just the same. More on Flickr

John,
I’ll accept the post boxes, lorries & signs, but sunshine?
As my friends in Glasgow like to say “Not bloody likely”.

Well, I can see how someone in Glasgow would say that ! ;o)

I believe it still does exist, but just in the weird parallel universe known only as “Henley-On-Thames”.

You mean England’s not like that?

I have doubts it ever existed, and a quick look out the window suggests that it still doesn’t (shame!)

Reminds me of where my grandparents used to live; a thatched cottage in Grove, Oxfordshire. I remember, during the Winter, that there was always a blazing fire, which meant a burning hot living-room and a sub-zero everywhere else. Actually, I think this was the norm in times gone by…

As an American, I must admit that I’ve always thought of England as being like this.. Since I’m not planning on going there anytime soon, I think I’ll just keep on pretending it’s true.

It exists, I live in it.
If you need an example just got to Devon for the day. I work in an 16th century thatched cottage/B&B. As a web developer… Although not the best place for meeting other developers it’s great for a relaxed and comfortable work place. When it’s a really good day just getting my laptop and working in the orchard is awesome. I’d struggle to work in any other way now.
The only other place I’ve ever worked was also a old castle which had been turned to offices in the middle of the forest with it’s own deer everywhere. http://websitevision.co.uk was where I was then. Look at the pic’s in the banner and you’ll question why I left.
