Firefox desktops updated

I’ve now moved the Firefox desktops to a new site takebacktheweb.org. This is by far the most requested download on the site, so moving them will help my bandwidth.

The desktops have also been updated with the latest, more polished version of Firefox logo, and the official strapline ‘take back the web’.

Very nice! Thanks! Finally, that silly “reloaded” slogan is gone. Now i can use it again, insted of the one i had switched to (due SOLELY to the silly “reloaded” slogan): http://www.digitalmediaminute.com/article/624

Just one nit: The “title” tool-tip of the banner link still has the silly “reloaded” slogan, instead of “Take back the web”. ;-)

Excellent! Any chance we could get a banner that’s just a little smaller or an icon/button or maybe even a buddy icon? what would we do without wishful thinking? :-)

Sweet!

Can you post a version where the logo is on the left side, please? My Macintrash likes to display icons on the right, and for clarity I prefer background images to align on the other side.

...so how about a running list of articles/links on takebacktheweb.org about Firefox’s soon-to-be world domination and glory over IE?

All the three first desktops are similar : 1280×1024.

Jon Hicks said 1474 days ago:

What do you mean Mozinet? They’re all the same design, just different resolutions? You’re not confusing Firefox’s ‘scale images to fit window’ feature are you?

Unlucky said 1474 days ago:

Nope the bottom 3 resolutions are all 1280X1024. Check for yourself.

The Firefox logo is awesome. From what I can see, the polish and refinements are mostly the spikes down the fox’s back. Can you explain whether you always planned to make small adjustments toward a final product or if there was a reason for the change (like better looking at 1600×1200 or better looking at 16×16)?

Jon Hicks said 1473 days ago:

whoops – sorry for doubting you. I’ve uploaded the correct versions now.

Darren – Its more than just the ‘spikes’. Most of the improvements are on the face and globe. Improvements to the smaller resolution icons are yet to come. The reason for a more polished large version is for print use, such as in reviews/articles. I just thought I’d update the wallpaper while I was at it.

Jon: is it possible to make those in a widescreen resolution (e.g.:1920×1200) just as Airbag (always?) does? It’s kind of hard to extract the Firefox logo from the 1600×1200 wallpaper with my non-skills, and I have found only 20 wallpapers for this resolution on the net, so it would be quite a nice addition to my ‘collection’ and desktop. I hope you don’t mind me asking… :-)

Great, but one resolution missing!

1280×960.

1280×1024 should go away (not the desktop pic, the resolution in general) – why the computer industry decided to make one of the standard resolutions 5×4 as opposed to the 4×3 of every other one (except for the recent widescreen displays, of course), I don’t know.

I’ll just scale one of the others or double 640×480 for now…

You should put a prominent link somewhere on this front page—I don’t think you can find a link to it in any of your “destination” pages, nor can I find it in resources. Some people who don’t read this blog that often may never find their way… Without Google, of course.
