FTP files from skEdit using Transmit 3
Here’s a quick tip for skEdit users who prefer Transmit 3 for their FTP needs. With Transmit 3’s new ‘Dock Send’ feature, you can send files directly from skEdit. As long as your site is set up to use Dock Send, just drag the file directly from skEdit’s file view onto Transmit’s dock icon, and it will upload it where you need it! This cuts out a few steps and makes the whole process a lot quicker.

Yes, a feature FTPeel has had for quite some time. In fact, this comes in handy too , and, if skEdit supports even basic AppleScript, will work as well.M.e. said 1240 days ago:
YES! I’m doing it now. Thanks fer the tip.Michael Bester said 1240 days ago:
Thanks for the tip, Jon. Although I love skEdit, I feel its FTP capabilities are not mature enough for heavy duty use. This will be a real boon to productivity.Greg said 1240 days ago:
I’m trying to do this but when I drag a file from SKEdit, the dock seems to lock up and wont move until I drag the file off again. It never lets me drop it on Transmit.M.e. said 1240 days ago:
Now that I’m at work, I’m having the same problem as Greg. Crap. This was cool when it worked.Daniel Andrews said 1240 days ago:
Wow, that’s really cool. I love skEdit, but it’s so “lightweight” sometimes more advanced features are lacking. The 3.6 betas are coming along pretty well if anyone has been messing around with them.

When I read about Dock Send I must admit to not seeing what the benefit was. I envisaged having to go into Finder to drag the files across. Apparently not so!Thanks for the tip Jon!

How does Transmit 3 compare to Vicomsoft FTP Client? I’ve been using FTP Client (I know, wholey uncreative name) for several months now and I’m almost entireley happy. There is one annoying thing that bothers me though. If I let an open connection sit inactive for five or more minutes, it will continue to upload new files and update existing ones, but it won’t let me create a new folder or delete files without shutting the program down and reconnecting from the beginning.I didn’t particularly like Transmit 2, but if they’ve worked out a lot of minor issues that made me stop using it, I might switch over.

I’ve emailed Sean Kelly back when Transmit 3 was first released, and he said that Transmit support would be coming soon (so that skEdit would show up as an external text editor in Transmit like BBEdit does). So that’s great news.Benvolio said 1240 days ago:
That’s a great tip… thanks John.I love using both of these programs and it would good if they integrated more.

Just a note: this may only work in the v3.6 private betas.Jon Hicks said 1239 days ago:
“Just a note: this may only work in the v3.6 private betas.”Ooops! Thanks Sean, that hadn’t occurred to me.

Funny, I tried this last night , just a guess to see if it worked (these things usually do on Mac) but sadly it didn’t and I was moving between skEdit and the Finder in a very unproductive way! But good to see support is coming…. how long until the 3.6 release now…
