Logo redesign article in this month's .net

photo of the dot net article

I’m very excited! This months .net magazine (#152 – August) has a 3 page article I wrote on the recent logo redesign, timed to coincide with their own (rather lovely) redesign.

It also reads like a friends journal. There’s a new Advisory Panel – Andy Budd, Patrick Lauke, Malarkey and Molly. Contributions from John Oxton, Andy B and an interview with the Interweb’s Mike Davidson. Its bizarre to have grown up reading magazine like this, and then one day, to find yourself and a whole gaggle of friends actually being in it.

He he he… apparently it’s the tea drinking that sets us British designers apart! There is a grain of truth in it, I have to confess! Well done. Great exposure…

No, it’s the tea and biscuts that sets you apart. And that whole Red Dwarf and curry thing too.

Congratulations! I read .net for the first time in my life yesterday, cause I got featured in it too – i would be able to say “page 52” in my sleep now ;)

I have my own 3 pages in this month too, it’s all very exciting! I must say how good the new redesign is, not only in terms of design but content too. It seems to be targeting more towards professionals now rather than hobbyists, which in my opinion is a brave move, and one I hope pays off for them.

I must say that the new design of .net isn’t imho only good – inconsequent spacing and placement of images etc. But indeed it is much better looking than what i have previously seen from the magazine!

Ooo – thanks for the reminder. Got to run out and get it. Been wanting to see what they did re-design -wise. Congrats on the article!

I’m assuming that this is the story of great design, and not just good ;-)

I haven’t bought .net in quite a while, but I might just be tempted. As an IT bod coming at web design from the technical side I’m keen to read as much as possible about the creative side.

The new Advisary panel sounds great too!

Bah, the only .net magazine we get in the states is from MSDN. I’ll have to poke around some book stores this weekend and see if anybody around here carries it.

Personally, I’m loving the handy-pointy-fingery thing in the photos. Its like a real-life browser

Blimey! I never thought .net magazine would end up where Web design is really at. Time to take another look. I wonder if this issue will see the start of a circulation boost. Let’s hope they keep up the quailty. And what a year for you, Jon. I’m still hoping you’ll get your own session for @media 2007!

Well deserved Jon, the logo is great! Also nice to see some of my regular reads now getting recognition in the offline world. That’s really nice and will hopefully make this whole webstandards thing even more well known!
Gotta have this one, and I know it’s hard to find in Holland. Grrrr….

Not bad article and not bad advertisement for .net magazine :). Designers are uniting and it’s pleasure to me

Well done, I have been trying to find a copy but it is proving difficult in this back water part of Suffolk.

Well done .net for getting its act together, listening to feedback, and replacing gimmicky development tutorials with good quality guidance from highly respected professionals that give a damn about the web. Congratulations on your article too, hopefully there’ll be a few more to come and I’ll get to do more than just skim my girlfriend’s copy each month.

@ Craig C

It’s called Web Builder rather than .net over there.

Sweet stuff man – congrats on the ink!

I’d be interested in reading the actual article – I’ll have to stop by a store to pick up a copy.

Hi, I have to say that both the new look to .net and your article are great! At first, when I opened the mag, I thought “urgh, it’s gone all ‘Web 2.0’ on me”, but having read it from cover to cover on the train last Sunday I closed it thinking it was the best edition ever.

With regards your article, the little wallpaper pictures jumped out at me. When I saw the “arty farty designer” one I thought “that’s fantastic, I have to have it”, so it’s now gracefully decorating my desktop and making me smile. Cheers!

Why you are so surprised?

Erwin Heiser said 828 days ago:

To be honest I haven’t bought .net in years as I alsways thought it was related to Microsofts .Net.
Turns out the magazine is pretty good, surely a lot better then I expected!

It sounds like .Net has made some major changes and I might even be tempted to buy it again. Last time I did that, the magazine seemed more focused on “cool” websites than on well designed sites that serve an actual purpose. Probably a few years ago now though.

Well, nice design, besides it’s more usable and smells of newness.
