Looking for desk/office space in Oxfordshire

Please note : This is an old post – and I have since found a good office – thanks!
Just like Dan Cederholm I’ve decided it’s time to move out and find some local desk or office space. In the slim chance that someone reading this will know of any workspaces, I have only a few needs:
- Must be in the Witney or West Oxfordshire region (That’s the UK folks)
- Broadband access (or the facility to install it)
- A window too look at outside land.
- Sharing with other creatives would be ideal, but not essential.
I’m very clean, and come with my own furniture if need be. If you do happen know/have somewhere available, please let me know. If you don’t, please spread the word anyway.

Get Wi-Fi and work at Starbucks ;)Jon Hicks said 1609 days ago:
One slight problem, I live in a part of the world untouched by Starbucks. There’s one in Oxford, but I would be kicked out sharpish.pr10n said 1609 days ago:
I can’t help with the office space but I do want to say I find the choice of image quite humourous and poignant.Kenneth said 1609 days ago:
I am not living in UK region, so i couldn’t help much. But in Hong Kong, I choose my office in the Regus Business Centre: http://www.regus.com
They have office worldwide, so you can have a look if you want! For me, their services is great!

I take it that you’re looking for something completely different (ho ho)...Most universities have ‘innovation centres’ for start-up companies – you don’t necessarily have to be a past student at the particular institution and they can also offer business advice. Ultimately they are aimed at companies that can grow and then move out to their own premises – I’m not quite sure if that’s what you’re after.

jon, i’m actually thinking about doing the complete opposite! i have a shared studio space (lets just call it a room) with another designer. it has got to the point where i am thinking of working from home. for it to be affordable the studio/office space is small and not very nice. i would love a really nice bit of space but that is out of my price range. so home is becoming an option just because i can have a whole room to myself, even if it is small. but then i don’t want to work from home! it is a really quandary!Deek said 1608 days ago:
This might be worth looking at:http://www.oxin.co.uk/busenv/index.php
I have friends running a business out of Coventry Uni’s equivalent. Good set up with the “housing keeping” stuff done for you. Works well for them, but maybe too commercial for you?

In my current and previous employments, the offices we were situated at were housed in Media Centres. My previous employer built one in Manchester, and I’m now working at one in Leeds. They’re great for web/new media companies, as they tend to have flexible office spaces on flexible lease terms (some as little as 1 month). You may also find that you can gain work from other companies housed in the same building. The one I’m in at the moment also has an area with “pods” – little workspaces you can lock up once you’re finished for the day. It means you’re not sat on your own in a small office, but you are a different company entity.
Maybe Oxford (or its local area) has one of these builings?

i like that ‘pod’ idea!wheat said 1608 days ago:
Following up on Jonathan Fenocchi’s comment, if you live state-side and prefer to work at Barnes and Noble, you might consider SBC’s FreedomLink service. It is similar to the one offered by T-Mobile, but a bit cheaper and with, IMHO, better coverage.Rachel said 1607 days ago:
I’ve just found office space for edgeofmyseat.com – subletting from another company who had some spare space, which is a great way to make the jump for home to office. It’s worth asking around (local Chamber of Commerce, or local networking groups) to see if anyone has a spare office in their building.Johnie said 1607 days ago:
Nice to have you back and blogging again…your holiday sounded lovely. Why not start a conversation on upmystreet ? I’ve found that can be quite helpful for this sort of need.

“One slight problem, I live in a part of the world untouched by Starbucks. There’s one in Oxford, but I would be kicked out sharpish.”.. oh, i wouldn’t say that, heh .. the starbucks here in oxford are quite ‘lax..
failing that, the starbucks in Borders, near debenhams would be fine no doubt.

Hello Max! I guess you’re local then!Matt Carey said 1607 days ago:
I spent all day in Starbucks in Oxford working—the t-mobile connections charges start to hurt!Jeff Clark said 1606 days ago:
I don’t know if I’m missing something or what, but why would you want to move away from the house to work?Isn’t that kind of the dream job? Working from home?
That’s the entire reason I’m in college – is so I don’t have to share an office (or space) with anyone!
Jon Hicks said 1606 days ago:
Jeff, there are many reasons.# I’ve worked on my own at home for 3 years now. Its OK for a while, it helps you get on and work, but you end up seeing the same four walls a lot, especially when your social life is reduced by having children.
# I want to work with people, and leave the house
# We also need another bedroom now that Daniel is getting bigger. The leap from 3 bedroom houses to 4 is around £100,000 in these parts, so its out I go!!

This is pretty much the same boat i’m in, too. The challenge i have from working at home right now is our beautiful toddler who wants nothing more than to sit in my lap and help me work. It’s great—just difficult to be productive!i’ve found a temporary space in the back of a gallery here in Dallas, but it looks like a few friends are going to convert some warehouse space into rentable desk spaces for creatives here in the city. Maybe you and Max could do the same—or move to Dallas and join us. ;)

My dream job is working in an open plan corporate environment, but having the freedom to do my own work in exchange for part-time admin support. Nice if you can get it. (Central London please, if anyone is listening).Jon, perhaps you could get together with some local freelancers and rent a office together.

http://www.regus.com/files/infomedia/locations/offices_index_2002.asp?city=oxfordi really like that regus place. i think I’m going to work in one of their offices next year when i graduate with my graphic design degree. because as much as i like the idea of working out my house, it would eventually drive me insane.
