On the playlist: M83 - Graveyard Girl

m83

Last.fm recommendations have turned up trumps for me this week. M83 turned up with the new album “Saturdays = Youth”, and I’ve been playing it on loop ever since. Incidentally, I’ve been buying music from Play.com. MP3’s, no DRM and 320kbps, it’s a great deal (and sadly I don’t get any commission for pimping them).

Graveyard Girl is a luscious 80’s flavoured song from the album, and while the video isn’t all that great (except for the floating dogs – GENIUS!) it’s enough to give you a taster.

I came across Garveyard Girl on Pitchfork.tv a couple weeks ago, and give it a listen every couple of days. It’s a really nice mix of 80’s and shoegaze. I agree…great song.

Goodness! I didn’t know Play were doing mp3s now!

Saves me having to wait for Amazon to pull its socks up here in the U of K… 320kb/s too… Can’t beat that for paid-for mp3s!

Cheers boss..

Make sure to check their previous album “Before the Dawn Heals Us”. You might also like Cut Copy’s “Bright Like Neon Love” and “In Ghost Colours”.

Speaking of Last.fm, have you tried out Soundamus.net? Gives you a great list of upcoming albums matching your taste as you’ve specified at Last.fm.

I too have had Saturdays = Youth on repeat for the past few weeks or so. I’ve been a fan of M83 for a while, but this album is very different to their other stuff and I prefer it immensely. It’s nice when change is good.

Oh man, Hicks… I played that song and I was immediately transported to 1988. Taking Deanna Nixon on a date in the Autumn to the Botanical Gardens before going to the school’s football game that evening.

Wow. Gonna have to buy that album.

Back to downloading without paying …

What a great attitude. Where are based Fred? In the US try Amazon, or globally try emusic? There are other sources of DRM free mp3s, that also allow the artist to get paid for their work.

Wow, this is right up my alley, love it. Thanks!

Reminds me quite a lot of a swedish group called The Radio Dept. You might want to give them a try. :)

i’ve been really impressed with the MP3 download from Play.com for all the reasons you’ve mentioned but also because I’ve found tracks there that I can’t seem to find anywhere else which really shocked me.

If you dig m83 and like that 80s sound you should definitely check out a band called The Mary Onettes. I think they are from sweden…its the best stuff I have heard in a long time!
