27.07.06 Pimped Safari Icon
There has been a lot of requests for one of these, so I’ve finally made the PimpMySafari logo into a custom Safari icon!

Download this zip file to get the icon as an .icns file, iContainer and applied to a folder.
How To Install
There are 3 ways to install the new icon
- If you have Pixadex, import the iContainer, and apply the icon with Quick Drop
- Ctrl Click Safari.app and choose “Show Package Contents”. Drop the new compass.icns file into the /Contents/Resources/ folder.
- Select the folder with the PMS icon, choose Get Info from the Finder (Apple-I). Click the icon and copy (Apple-C). Do the same with the Safari.app but paste intead of copy.
Please note that due to lack of time this icon file does not include 48,32 or 16 pixel resolution components, but should be fine in most situations.
Enjoy!

Jon that is very sexy. Thanks! It looks really nice in the dock.

Lordy—it’s BEAUTIFUL.
Apple had better just go ahead and throw money at you and use this for Leopard. Oh, and make sure they do it in Pound Sterling, not our little American Pesos.
Of course, I have now learned (and seen for myself) that Omniweb 5.5 kicks the living hell out of every other OS X browser in terms of rendering speed, so I’m now dating her on a more regular basis.
Have to say, it’s a good time for browsers. Flock has some brilliant features, Safari (with add-ons) is a winner, and Omniweb is a sprinter. What’s not to love?
(Sorry, but I’m not a Camino fan. A Firefox-based browser without plug-in support? WTF?)

Love the icon! This is going straight onto my powerbook.
Quick question, in the screenshot showing your icon, what is the software with the icon to the left of safari?
∞ Kevin Cannon said 1293 days ago:
Dunks, that would be stattoo by Panic software. Great little app.
∞ Nathan said 1293 days ago:
I love stattoo as well. Keeping my Basecamp RSS feed ‘tattooed’ on the desktop is more useful than I even imagined.
Thanx man.
Maybe if you change the name to Pimp Your Safari you wouldn’t get sued?

Thanks. It looks fantastic!

Nice work Jon. I’ve been using one of Dave Brasgalla’s icon for safari for what seems for ever (Safari App2 or Crop Circle). Not that its a big deal, but it seems like the 48, 32, and 16 pixels resources are not in there. A little unsharp mask might be nice at those sizes.
∞ Jon Hicks said 1293 days ago:
Alexis – no they aren’t, I’m being a bit lazy/short of time. This was created quickly with Pixadex, but I will do it properly with IconBuilder at some point. The trouble is unsharp mask is often not enough, and the icons need to be redrawn to get the clarity and crispness.
Nathan – thanks for the basecamp feed idea! :D

It’s very nice, but it took me a while to work out that it wasn’t a flame with eyes.
∞ George said 1292 days ago:
Lovely. With this and the BBEdit icon you are slowly taking over my machine.

Thought you might be interested in seeing this. It’s a comparison between a celestial body and the Firefox logo!

I like the Safari icon quite a lot ;)
∞ Eric Schwarz said 1286 days ago:
I agree, Jon, Apple should hire you to do graphics work. If not, someone else should (maybe BareBones?)
Have you put any thought into fixing up other Apple apps?
∞ Candy said 1285 days ago:
Awesome icon, but I don’t understand how it preview connects with Safari?
∞ unvs said 1285 days ago:
#26 – It’s a safari hat/helmet, and it’s been pimped (notice the flames).
Or isn’t that what you meant at all? :)
∞ Inviz said 1284 days ago:
Goodie :D
