Return of the iPod

hicksdesign iPodLast December, you might remember that I was having problems getting my iPod to mount on my G5. Having tried all manner of fixes – resetting firewire ports, restarting iPod, rubbing Marmite into the play/pause button whilst simultaneously placing a paper clip into the headphone socket for 3 seconds, singing The Safety Dance at half speed. Nothing.

After giving up hope of ever getting the little bugger to show itself to iTunes, Finally I’ve found a solution that works, thanks to this post on the Apple forums. Thank you Stefano Stefani, you rock (as the kids say).

I know how you feel. I’ve recently been through a similar painful process, and it’s such a great feeling when life can resume. I think in the end booting from CD and repairing permissions was my saviour. Although I can never be completely sure…

Just to check: you weren’t being serious about the Marmite thing, right? I know what you Mac lunatics are like ;)

Did you happen to video the paper clip and The Safety Dance part ? I think I have been doing that wrong.

I know how you feel too. I too have been through this very problem and ended up having to send the ipod back to Apple as I thought it was a problem with the hard drive. They sent it back, making me feel very technical inadequate, stating there was no problem with it. It’s worked ever since.

Maybe I should have followed these instructions.

Hmm, I used to get similar problems with my iPod except with my new windows machine. Worked fine on my old one, but it was a pain to get it to work on my current comp. Works fine now and I’m glad. I love the little bugger.

i, like everyone else, was having probs with the ipod-comp link up. really, it started when i went across platforms.

long story short: if i plug in the ipod before i turn on the comp, i never have problems with it.

i don’t use any special connections/port/card thingies.

Does anyone know if it possible to get itunes to find other devices, as well as ipods, for example a removable hard drive?
