RSS Feed problems

So, I’ve got to get this RSS feed problem worked out. Loads of people are reporting problems, and I think its to do with the feed URL, and my brief flirtation with feedburner.

Could everyone who is having problems make sure that the URL is http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/feeds/rss/, and let me know if that fixes it?

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Always worked fine for me…. firefox live bookmarks, RSS feed.

Everything is fine, except the fact that since the RSS doesn’t contain any Date information, my netnewswire spits out all the posts to be posted at the same date. Why not call in dublic core meta data?

I had /atom and it was screwing with the HTML. Changed to /rss and its working great in Safari RSS.

I was using http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/?rss=1&section=journal without any problems on Bloglines. With http://hicksdesign.co.uk/feeds/rss/ I seem to be missing the last article and nice favicon icon.

The RSS feed is now working fine for me, Jon. Newsfire is no longer choking when I use the discover feeds in Safari feature, either.

I’ve been subscribed to the Atom feed via Bloglines and haven’t noticed a problem. Perhaps Bloglines does some smart filtering on their end?

RSS Bandit on Windows is now displaying everything, but the dates are messed. Bloglines is missing this post. Pluck is only showing upto the Seven Seven post (wish Pluck were faster – it would make an awesome reader if it were). RSS Owl (inspired logo) is doing the same as RSS Bandit.

For those who (for some strange reason) prefers Atom, I just wanted to let you know that http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/?atom=1&section=journal works just fine with my Bloglines.

Update: this post just appeared on Bloglines. Must have been the 20 minute lage thing.

I was using the Atom; switching to RSS seems to have fixed it. Odd…

The RSS feed though feedburner is, and has been, working fine for me, Jon. I’ve changed it to the one you supplied, though, to make sure issues don’t crop up.

Works fine with NetNewsWire. Keep the great content-a-coming!

Sage and Safari seem to have problems with the atom feed. Sage doesn’t see anything if the post did not have an excerpt and Safari shows you the html code. Seems to be an issue with them improperly handling atom 1.0 feeds. Sencer explains it a little bit over in this thread .

NetNewsWire reports http://hicksdesign.co.uk/feeds/rss/ and the world seems right over here.

Jon, what made you decide against using feedburner then? (I’m currently enjoying my brief flirtation!)

Firefox, Sage 1.3.5 and http://feeds.feedburner.com/hicksdesign as the feed and has been for a while I guess..

Never seen the problems others have so I guess feedburner isn’t the culprit although I don’t always get the full post. depends on how long the post is.

Ahhh! I wondered why there hadn’t been any new posts for a while. Was on the feedburner feed in thunderbird, now back on the real one and it works perfectly. Thanks!

All looks good Jon except one small problem.

http://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hicksdesign.co.uk%2Ffeeds%2Frss%2F

Relative URL for one of your images is a naughty :)

Jon, if you want your RSS feed to be more easily accessible, please use PHP and change the response header of the RSS file from application/rss+xml to application/xml. In addition, change

link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”...” href=”...”

to

link rel=”alternate” type=”application/xml” title=”...” href=”...”

in your HTML source code, so that Firefox recognises automatically that your site offers RSS feed.

Dimo

feed on feeds is choking on your rss file stating “invalid”, but it’s done that with your site since way back when you swithced over to textpattern (although not on all txtpattern sites) and I have no helpful information so that you could fix it.

good luck!

Wow, I was thinking you were pulling an Oxton disappearing act.

For some reason I had been using http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/feeds/rss/index.rdf. Works now, but it looks like I missed a month’s worth of Hicks.
