Voyage of the Damned
So the theme of the Dr Who Christmas special has been revealed (Titanic doesn’t hit an iceberg, it crashes into the TARDIS) and the ‘special guest co-star’ has been confirmed as Kylie after all. It sounds like it’ll be a good Christmassy romp, as long as Russell T Davies doesn’t go overboard (ouch) on the corny Titanic jokes.
One thing worries me though: Does this mean he will meet himself?
I was on board another ship once. They said that was unsinkable. I ended up clinging to an iceberg, it wasn’t half cold.
The End of the World
I’m sure they’ve thought about it!

Its going be a good one, especially now Kylie has been confirmed :P
Thought it was comical the other night with the idea that Captain Jack Harkness and the face of Boe being one and the same.

“Does this mean he will meet himself?”
From Wikipedia (therefore it must be true, but I do remember it)
“In Rose, Clive, a conspiracy theorist, shows Rose an old photograph of the Ninth Doctor with “the Daniels family of Southampton”, on the eve of their scheduled voyage on board the Titanic. For an unspecified reason, they cancelled their trip and so survived the infamous iceberg collision and sinking.”
Maybe not, of course it doesn’t specify the Doctor didn’t board the vessel… Would be interesting to see Chris Eccleston one more time

Hey – good spot!
Can’t wait!!!

Being a Timelord, leaping through time/space with wild abandon, can he use the past tense to refer to things he has done/will do, irrespective of chronological order? So he may have been referring to the events which will unfold in the Christmas special…? Or does his own personal timeline work in the same way as yours or mine?
On the other hand, if Greg is right, maybe a cameo from Chris Eccleston would be a nice touch to avoid a sleight continuity error.

There is always a possibility that it isn’t “our” Titanic.
The Eternals (who have been name-checked at various points in the revived series) had a penchant for sailing through space in mock-ups of Earth ships — see the Peter Davison story “Enlightenment”.

I think they’ve got something planned. You can’t thow in those various references to the Titanic over the course of three seasons and then disregard them totally in an episode about the Titanic.
My guess is we might just see the back of someone looking a bit like the Ninth Doctor as the current Doctor tries to avoid bumping in to him.
Jon Hicks said 314 days ago:
Andy – that’s a good point. RTD does like his ‘Story Arcs’ so this is probably all planned!
Sam said 314 days ago:
Good spot, I had forgotten about that.
By the way, what did you think of the episode Blink? My God I loved it so much…
Jon Hicks said 314 days ago:
Blink, along with Human Nature and The Family of Blood, were my favourite episodes. In fact, despite The Master being wonderful, Human Nature/Family of Blood would’ve made a better finale I feel.
Tom Finley said 314 days ago:
I thought Dr. Who never ran into his past or future selves (though he very well could) to skirt the hairy logic involved with causality loops and time paradoxes.
Jon Hicks said 314 days ago:
No, he’s done it lots of times! First it was the 3 Doctors, then the 5 Doctors, then the 2 Doctors…

NO!!!!!!!!
Catherine Tate as an assistant!
Tell me it can’t be true.
As much as I love Dr Who what the hell is on with this, I managed to force myself to watch “The runaway bride” and was overjoyed when Tate turned down the Dr. Now she is coming back? Ouch!

… therein lies the genius of Doctor Who… one can single-handedly combat any continuity issues with some kind of time travel explanation…
Mark said 311 days ago:
Blink was awesome and Harkness as the Face of Boe was a masterstroke that finally gave me a reason to have sat through those terrible last three episodes.

I loved the 2-part Dalek episodes. Genius! But why was Utopia not classed as the first of a THREE-parter? (Since it carried on into the last 2.) Using Derek Jacobi was a stroke of genius though. A shame he regenerated into a younger actor!
I don’t like the idea of Catherine Tate as the new assistant, but change is always a shock, and I’m sure we’ll all love her by the end of the next series. (So long as she doesn’t try to be too comical, like her comedy series (which I love BTW)). I’d personally prefer someone darker and more mysterious in character. But I feel RTD likes to add humour to the show.
The Shakespearean episode was a firm favourite too. (Not the witches, who were average, but the historical setting.) And yes, the 2-parter where the Doctor becomes human and falls in love was superb.
I was surprised by the finale though – I thought they were planning to kill off the Doctor as he can’t regenerate again? And what happened to the rumour that he would “have a son”? Or did the VERY WEIRD bit where he became like Gollum in a cage means he can now regenerate many times over again? (The Master seemed to send him back to the beginning – to be honest I’m not sure what happened at that point.)
A shame Martha Jones is not carrying on (though she apparently returns half-way through the next series). But now all you Torchwood haters have a reason to watch that, as she is going to be in 3 episodes (so I read) which will “develop her character”. (Though knowing Torchwood this could mean lesbian sex scenes!)
Anyway, here’s to the next Dr Who related broadcast!
Adam said 310 days ago:
I’m not sure about him being able to regenerate, but who thinks that the next series will have something to do with Harold Saxon’s wife who picked up his ring at the end of the show?
I don’t think that the next series with Catherine Tate will be any good, and I would love to see Christopher Ecelston come back in the Christmas episode.
David Anderson said 310 days ago:
He should be able to regenerate at least three more times as he’s only in his 10th incarnation, and they get 13 in all (although the Master got to have more because of some cheeky shennanigans involving stealing bodies and stuff). The Doctor may also get to have more too, as past stories have suggested that the Timelord council were responsible for limiting the amount you had, and now that they’re all gone that limit may have gone too (which may be a consideration in doing away with them, so that more future incarnations could be written in when needed).

Even though RTD has said in the past he didn’t like the idea of having more than one doctor together, as it would become “more about the actors than the story”. I think it’s very likely that the 9th Doctor could turn up in the Voyage of the Damned episode. He did say in the 2nd episode of the 1st series that he was on it and ended up clinging to an iceberg.
The real question is (tongue in cheek of course) is whether Tom Baker will make an appearance as the 4th doctor referred to being on the titannic whilst saying he didn’t cause the accident.
