Segpub Christmas Cards

This year’s SegPub Christmas cards are something special; each one has been illustrated by 4 Segpub-hosted artists. These are now on sale, with 50% from each card sold going directly to Oxfam!

Here are this years designs:

(Clockwise from top left) Mathew Hoy (Hellaboss), Jon Hicks (me!), Claire Robertson (Loobylu) and Nathan Jurevicius (Scary Girl). These are all artists I’ve admired and envied.

The brief we were all given was very flexible – the only stipulation was that it had to incude SegPub Yellow, and the Segpub logo. I have to say, after months of coding and IE bug fixing, it was a joy to just make something. After this I really feel like giving up on coding, and just trying to make a living from plain ol’ design and illustration again.

Cards come in packs of 4, at $12 AUD each pack (excluding GST). Shipping is just $1 per pack to anywhere in the world! Go shopping!

Has Santa moved to Rhode Island?

This morning I received a letter from someone in North Kingstown. I say letter, it was actually a blank piece of paper along with no fewer than four shiny new window stickers of that oh so beautiful new BBEdit Icon I’m a fan of:

Whoever you were, I appreciate it! Let me know who you are, so that I can send you a 10-pack license for Comic Sans.

Happy Christmas!

I’m now going to tear myself away from the screen for a few days (maybe), and relax with the family. My daughter Samantha is 2 and a half years old, and this is the first year that she realises what’s going on. It’s going to make Christmas special for me again, now that I have an over-excited offspring loving every minute of it.

I’ll leave you with news that William Shatner is about to record a new album, featuring Henry Rollins and produced by Ben Folds! That’s got to be the event of 2004…

Hope you all have a good Christmas!

Darkest Night of the Year

The darkest night of the year by Over the Rhine

At this time of year, I don’t actually mind the fact that its dark at 4 o’clock – it makes Christmas feel close. I can hear carolers outside in the street, but they’re teenagers that can’t hold a tune or remember more than 3 lines. So to get into the right mood, I’m listening to ‘The Darkest Night of the Year’ by Over the Rhine. Without doubt, the best Christmas album, a mixture of rearranged traditional carols, and new songs. No Slade, Bing Crosby or Wham, just decent, atmospheric music that creates a yuletide vibe.
